Nadia Comăneci - President, Co-Founder

Nadia Comăneci, born in Oneşti, Bacău County, is the first gymnast in the world that has scored a perfect ten in an Olympic gymnastics competition.

Comaneci's first major international success came at the age of 13, when she nearly swept the 1975 European Championships in Skien, Norway. She won the all-around and gold medals on every event but the floor exercise, in which she placed second. In the same year, she was nominated for the title of "The Athlete of the Year in Romania" by the news agency Associated Press.

At the age of 14, Comaneci became one of the stars of the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Quebec, being the first gymnast that earned a perfect score of 10 at the Olympics (unanimous 6-judges score). Moreover, during the same competitions she won three Gold medals (individual mixed, beam and uneven bars), a Silver medal (team mixed), and a Bronze medal (floor exercise).

Throughout her career, Nadia won a total of five Olympic Gold Medals. Nadia was elected a member of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, and she supported the training of Romanian junior gymnasts between 1984 and 1989; after that she emigrated to the USA.
Ten years later, in 1999, Nadia Comaneci became the first sportsperson invited to speak at the United Nations for the launching of the Year 2000, the International Year of the Volunteer Work.

In December 2003, her first book, "Letters to a Young Gymnast", was published.
Together with her husband, former gymnast Bart Conner, Nadia currently continues to contribute to the progress of gymnastics through her activity at "Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy", "Perfect 10 Production Company", and by editing The International Gymnastics Magazine.
At the same time, Nadia Comaneci is involved in many actions that support people in need, like those that suffer of muscular dystrophy. She pays special attention to charity actions that offer help to orphans, to people with various disabilities and to those who come from poor families and can not support the costs for their own living. As a result, Nadia created a charity clinic in Bucharest where Romanian orphans are protected and taken care of.

Nadia Comăneci is the Honorary President of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, the Vice-President of the Romanian Olympic Committee, Ambassador of the Romanian Sports, Vice-President of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and a member of the International Gymnastics Federation Foundation.

Nadia was twice distinguished with the Olympic Order, granted by the International Olympic Committee. In January 2nd, 2007, the former gymnast was nominated as the Athlete of the Century by the readers of "El Mundo Deportivo".
